  • About Barn Lane

Derek and Kim, who are both architects based in Belfast, established the ‘Barn Lane’ brand in 2014. Derek explains, “Having grown up in this unique and often forgotten part of Ulster and enjoyed what it has to offer, I wanted others to be able to share that experience”.

Their aim is for guests to enjoy their entire holiday experience from the moment they arrive, whether it be exploring the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape, visiting the numerous local tourist attractions or simply relaxing in the unique accommodation that they have created.

  • How it started. What came before.

The Loughery family has been farming in the Roe Valley for generations and the family farm at Drumagosker still provides quality beef to this day.

In the late 1940’s, John Loughery, who had inherited the farm from his Uncle John, purchased this small holding from the Lynd family. Dr Lynd had been the local family practitioner with his practice located on the Main Street, Limavady.

In 1953 John married Mary Ritchie who had worked as a telephonist for the General Post Office (GPO) in Enniskillen & Coleraine and had volunteered to work in central London during the Second World War. Following their marriage, Mary left her post (as was the custom in those days) to become a farmer’s wife & they used her severance pay from the GPO to help pay off the bank loan.

After 30 years working the main farm just across the road, John & Mary retired to Mount Fair House in 1983 where they enjoyed many years refurbishing the original dwelling (built in 1810) and developing the gardens & adjoining grounds.

  • The story so far...

John & Mary Loughery had 4 children. Their youngest son Derek and his wife Kim, who are both architects based in Belfast, now own the property and established the ‘Barn Lane’ brand in 2014. Derek explains, “Having grown up in this unique & often forgotten part of Ulster & enjoyed what it has to offer, I wanted others to be able to share that experience”.

Kim adds, “We wanted our guests to wake up somewhere amazing before they venture out to explore what the locality has to offer and the feedback that we have had to date has been both encouraging and exceeded our expectations.”

Their aim is for guests to enjoy their entire holiday experience from the moment they arrive, whether it be exploring the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape, visiting the numerous local tourist attractions or simply relaxing in the unique accommodation that they have created.

  • So, what next...

Now that Number 1 & The Garden Rooms are both up & running, Kim & Derek have plenty of ideas for expansion opportunities and have already set the wheels in motion for their next venture. To find out more, watch this space……….
